Eco-friendly Way Of Eliminating Moss From Your Roof

The growth of unwanted plants and weeds on your roof can drive you crazy as they’re most likely to weaken the structure of your roof. If you live in a hot and humid location then you need to pay extra attention to the moss growing on your roof.

The roots of the moss act as an easy passage for the water to enter into your walls and ceilings.

Though there are traditional methods available to curb the growth of such plants on your roof but these methods also affect the architecture of your roof a lot in a negative way. For instance, a chemical bleach easily sweeps off all the moss from your roof but it leaves you with a dampened roof. In addition, the gutters and downspouts face the problem of corrosion owing to usage of these chemicals.

Instead of using such a harmful chemical, you can switch to an eco-friendly alternative. In order to offer complete protection to your roof as well as the environment, make way for the manual method.

Before you commence the project, make sure that you carry the right supplies with you. It would broadly include the cleaning tools and a ladder. A brush with long handle and a long garden are the two things that would particularly be of immense help. In addition, a wheelbarrow (to collect the moss residue) and an extension ladder (to reach the roof) would be required as well.

Once all the necessary items are arranged, move out and make the ladder stand firmly on the ground. Make sure that the area on which the ladder stands is not wet and saturated and instead, choose a hard and rigid one. Rest it against the exterior wall such that it reaches the top of the roof quite comfortably. Climb up the ladder and observe the spread of the moss on your roof. This would determine your next course of action. A smaller spread of moss means that even a typical brush would do the job. On the other hand, a larger spread points to the possible employment of the garden rake as well.

For the more rigid and thick moss, use the back end of the rake to preform the uprooting operation. Once the moss looks detached, clean off the area with the help of a long-handled brush. Make all the residual fall on the ground over the piece of cloth. If you are not in a comfortable position to drop the moss on that particular piece of cloth then you can causally throw it on the ground as well.

After the area has been cleaned, come down and collect all the moss leftover in a wheelbarrow and dump it in an appropriate place.
