Regular Maintenance Checks Prevent Plumbing Problems
As a homeowner, it’s your duty to maintain the home and inspect the things. For smooth running of things, you need to be little attentive. Plumbing is one aspect that is needed to be taken care of. Here we will discuss a checklist that will help you in looking for plumbing problems. If you will follow the checklist line by line, you can maintain your home’s plumbing.
Think about all the appliances and pipes that come under your home plumbing system. Like your toilet water supply, sinks, shower, kitchen and laundry facility like washer, utility sinks and drains.
Best method to check the proper working of a faucet or a shower head is to check their water flow. If you find the pressure to be same as before then there is nothing to worry about. But if it is less than before then it shows that either something is trapped in your faucet/shower head or in the water supply pipes.
Check drain of each sink, shower and tub for the speed of drainage. Slow drainage normally indicates a clog in the drain. When water is draining, if bubbles appear in it then it is a sign of some problem. To check all the faucets in your home, turn on all of them to see if there is any water coming out of the handles and valves.
In toilet, check the flushing handle and inner parts of it. Start the flush to make sure that it is flushing properly. Check the parts inside the tank of the toilet to see if any parts are broken, rusted or missing. Ensure that the toilet water does not continue to run after flushing.
Check if there are cracked tiles around the shower, sinks or near water pipes in the home. Loose or hollow tiles can be an indication that there is/was a leak around it. Also check whether the tub, sink or toilet caulking is in place or coming off.
How to check the water heater? First of all check the flame of your heater. To clean the heater, remove all the sedimentation by draining it. It should be blue in color. If it has touch of yellow light then you need to clean the jet. Open the chamber of heater and check it, if you find some chips of rust there then it means it has rusted.
If you will run this checklist once or twice in a year then you can make your home plumbing system efficient and prevent the occurrence of any big problem. It can save a lot of money for you that would otherwise be wasted in repairing any big problem. Hence, inspecting home plumbing system periodically is very essential.
