A Fan Mister Makes Your Backyard Patio A Comfortable Space Year-Round

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Summer in all parts of the world, except in the Polar Regions, is getting hotter and hotter. The general consensus in the scientific world is that the world-wide average temperature is 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the 1800s, much of the surge happened during recent decades. And the rate which it climbs keeps on increasing. Whatever the reason is-man-made or natural-there’s no denying that summer these days is really blazing hot. Fortunately, we now have the fan mister, or misting fan.

A fan with a misting attachment is much more effective than an old-fashioned fan for a variety of reason. Mechanical fans simply blow air at the user. As the air stops moving towards you, your body continues to sweat in order to cool down your body temperature. It is the air from the mechanical fan causing that sweat to evaporate that makes your body feel much cooler as your body stops making sweat.

Equipped with a high pressure pump and self-contained filtration system, a fan with an attached mister would pump out cool water droplets as small as 10 microns. These fine water droplets will evaporate fast upon making contact with the air. When this happens, the coolness of the water droplets is transferred to the surrounding air. And when the cooled air touches your skin, sweat evaporates from it quickly. The quicker it evaporates, the cooler you feel.

Patio Garden Furniture

Friday, May 7th, 2010

If you have a lovely patio or deck or a beautiful garden, then you need to have good patio furniture in order to enjoy it. There is no finer end to a busy day than sitting outside on the patio with a drink and a newspaper or a book. I like to sit in the garden after the sun has waned a little, but before the mosquitoes come out, for a few hours reading a book.

There are many different styles of patio furniture to choose from that range from classic to modern. There is also a full range of choice in that there are chairs, loungers, swinging sofas, tables, outdoor fridges, barbecue sets and patio heaters amongst other things. A full set need not cost more than $1,000, but you can start with a table and two chairs and build up your patio furniture set step by step.

The many choices you have when looking for patio furniture are the style and the material it is made from. Most patio furniture stays outside all day and all night in any weather, so it important to get furniture that is well-made and weather-proof. All weather furniture is usually made from plastic-coated steel, wicker, massive wood or moulded plastic.

The Remodeled Garage Heater

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

If you have converted your garage into a workshop or home office, you are sure to need heating in one form or another. This is because most garages are not built to the same standards of insulation as the main residential building. However, that need not present a difficulty. You may even have the opposite problem during the summer, as garages often do not have windows, or at least large ones, either.

Ventilation could be another matter that you will have to cope with, but we will come to that later. If you have a plentiful supply of dead wood, you could set up a pot-bellied stove, but you will have to vent the flue outside. This is very easily done, since most garage walls are only one brick or block thick. However, if they do not burn correctly, there can be a smell, which you may find unpleasant.

Or you could use a paraffin/kerosene heater. They are cheap to buy and are easily portable. These heaters do not necessarily have to have a flue. They are easy to turn on as many of them have an electric starter. Some also have a thermostat to control the temperature. They can be a hazard if there are children around as they can be tipped over. However, for most people, the problem would be the smell given off.

Oak And Cherry Garden Furniture

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Oak is one of the best woods to use for patio garden furniture. It is local to most Western countries and, being a hardwood, can withstand the weather, if treated correctly. It is very durable and, so long as you maintain it, it will give you enjoyment and comfort on your garden patio for decades to come.

Oak is certainly not inexpensive, but if you bear in mind that it will last for ten to twenty years, whereas plastic and metal may last two to four years, it does not work out a bad deal over the long term and during that time span, you will have been sitting on garden furniture that is the bee’s knees in every way.

Just a point of interest here that will give you more range when you are buying your hardwood garden furniture, oak and cherry wood share many of the same characteristics as far as garden patio furniture is concerned.

The patterns of whorls and rings in the timber is truly beautiful, so in order to maintain the stocks of these trees, please make sure that your patio furniture comes from a replenishable source.

Plan Your New Patio This Winter

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

It is soon to be winter and most patios around the country will be sitting unused. Cooking outdoors and enjoying the summer sun might be far from anyones mind but this will actually be a great time to be thinking about any patio ideas and any improvements you might want to make.

Expanding and upgrading your patio is not something you do on a whim and now is the time to look through magazines, online sites, and other resources to decide what improvements you want to make. For instance, do you want to stamp your patio to make it look better than that slab of concrete you have there now? Do you want to change the landscaping around the patio to make it all come together better? Do you want to buy better looking patio furniture to create a different atmosphere?

If you want to construct a patio that looks modern, slate is the rock you might think of using. Slate patio ideas will all make your patio beautiful if they are done the right way. Slate is a stone that comes in all sorts of colors and textures and it will give your patio a very elegant look. You see slate patios in many of the more expensive homes because it is a stone that gives your patio and upscale elegant look. Slate won’t be the cheapest option for your patio but it could be one of best if you entertain a lot and want your patio to be part of the festivities.

Summer Time On Your Patio

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Most homes, if they come with a patio, have a plain slab of concrete. While this is enough for many people, if you have a big yard and live in a place where you are going to use your patio for entertaining you will probably be interested in trying to find some ideas that will enhance your backyard patio environment.

People who use their patio a lot usually want to make it a fun place to hang out. This means you need to come up with some good furniture ideas and be creative in how you arrange the surroundings. The more work you do on the landscaping around the patio with plants and trees will ultimately enhance the look and feel of the patio.

Creating a great backyard and patio environment where you and your guests will want to hang out adds value to your home. It is important to have a nice patio and maintain it but you must work to construct the surrounding plants, bushes and trees in a manner that will make everything look like it belongs together. Your patio is a part of the house that can increase in importance with a little work and thought.
