Plasma TV Buying Guide

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Plasma tvs are a popular choice among tv purchasers. The technology behind the tv may be difficult to understand but the results are spectacular. Plasma tv technology is achieved through hundreds of thousands of pixel cells that are contained between two layers of glass. The gasses in the pixel cells are excited by electrical pulses from the tv. The excitement causes the pixels to produce light coloured blue, green, or red. Together the colours produce and overall picture that is show on your tv screen.

Plasmas perform better in rooms with low to moderate lighting. Plasmas screen is glass which allows for a lot of light to be reflected. This can be a problem in a room with bright light coming from skylights or windows. Many plasma tvs now have glare reducing features to help alleviate the problem. Impressive deep black colours and high contrast levels create a superb viewing experience with plasma tv’s. Sharp and vivid images are achieved through the tvs brightness, colour saturation, and strong contrast.

Plasma tvs are known to have a quick response time and the motion blur is negligible. Fast moving images are displayed accurately making plasmas an ideal choice for video gamers, sports fanatics, and movie watchers.

The Advantages Of An LCD Television

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Many consumers are asking themselves if buying an LCD television is a good decision. They have questions about the clarity of the picture, screen sizes, cost, and how long it will last. They want to know if it will work with the equipment they already own. Let’s look at some of the facts.

Most consumers are aware of LCD technology from watches, cell phones, and video camera screens, but may not know what it is. Simply the screen is two panels of transparent matter, which have been “cemented” together. A polymer material containing the liquid crystals is applied to one of these layers. When electricity is connected to these crystals, they will either allow the light through or become opaque. It is this action which forms the images we see.

Although LCD and plasma TV’s look much alike, their technology is entirely different. Plasma televisions are comprised of individual cells. Each of these cells is filled with neon-xenon gas. When electricity is passed through the cells, it strikes blue, red and green phosphors to react. Each group of these phosphors is a pixel, or picture element; one tiny part of the whole image.

Why Plasma TVs Are Superior To LCD TVs

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Now may be a good time to think about replacing your old, bulky picture-tube television with a new, state-of-the-art, flat-panel plasma television. The HD revolution is well underway, and cable/satellite companies are offering subscribers more High-Definition content than ever before.

The most outstanding feature of a plasma television is the crystal-clear clarity and high resolution of the picture. Generally available in a variety of resolutions ranging from 720p, which is better for smaller models where high-resolution is not as important, all the way to 1080P, the highest resolution available. If you intend to receive HD programming, make sure that you shop for a Plasma TV that is HD compatible; some plasma TVs are actually EDTVs, or Enhanced-Definition Televisions. While having greater picture clarity and higher resolution than your old picture-tube set, EDTV does not have the superior HD picture quality of a true HD compatible Plasma Television.

Flat-screen plasma televisions are also much slimmer and lighter than standard TVs since they lack a traditional picture tube. A 40-inch plasma TV typically weighs less than half of what a similar sized traditional television weighs, and since plasma TVs are only a few inches thick, they can be mounted on a wall, freeing-up valuable floor space.
